Summit Track

The Summit Track is the most popular of the Rangitoto Walks, beginning at Rangitoto Wharf, winding through the lava fields and native forest up to the summit peak. The views at the top are outstanding, offering panoramic views of Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf. While at the top why not walk around the crater or stop for a picnic lunch?
Lava Caves Track
Time: 15 min one way from Summit Track Distance: 700m Difficulty: Easy View Map
The Lava Caves track is a family favorite and is accessible around 45 min along the Summit Track from Rangitoto Wharf. The short, well signposted diversion leads you to the Rangitoto lava tunnels and caves. Remember your flashlight if you would like to explore the caves fully, as it is quite dark.
Wilson Park Track
Time: 45 min from Summit Track turnoff to summit Distance: 1.5 k Difficulty: Moderate View Map
The Wilson Park Track is an alternative route to the Rangitoto summit and branches off the Summit Track just before the Lava Caves Track turnoff. This route is perfect if you are looking to extend your walk to the top.
Coastal Track

The Coastal Track runs from Rangitoto Wharf to Islington Bay Wharf and passes many of the old boatsheds and baches and ruins of World War II storage areas. This is a popular walk for swimmers and those looking to picnic for lunch.
